In life, some people sometimes don’t know how to properly accept their own shortcomings, which often leads to them developing a lack of self-confidence.
Feeling insecure occasionally is perfectly normal, but if left unchecked, it can become a problem that interferes with daily activities. If it becomes excessive, it can become a barrier to a person’s growth in life. Low self-confidence often leads to a feeling of inadequacy or inferiority compared to others.
Characteristics of People Who Lack Self-Confidence
People with low self-confidence sometimes exhibit certain traits, and these traits can be quite striking. What are the characteristics of people who lack self-confidence? Here are some of them. Do you have any of the following traits?
Avoidance and Procrastination
When you feel low on confidence, you may often avoid risky or uncertain situations. For example, you might avoid trying positive new hobbies, new challenges, or avoid promotions.
People often tend to play it safe, avoid risks, and stay in their comfort zone when they feel low on confidence. However, this can prevent you from reaching your full potential and hinder your personal and professional growth.
Fear of Social Interaction
Avoiding social gatherings or meeting new people due to feelings of fear or anxiety. Tendency to avoid communication situations due to fear of being blamed or humiliated, and feeling embarrassed when appearing in front of a crowd *Lauster and Rakhmat (in Afiatin & Martaniah, 1998).
Fear of being judged or saying the wrong thing can make it difficult to engage in these situations, often limiting your personal and professional opportunities.
Overly Self-Criticism
Another characteristic is focusing too much on one’s own weaknesses and shortcomings while downplaying one’s accomplishments. Feeling nervous easily, anxious about expressing ideas, and constantly comparing oneself to others. While constructive self-reflection is healthy, constant self-criticism is actually debilitating. It can make you feel like your own enemy, constantly highlighting your shortcomings.
Looking from a Handwriting Perspective
Did you know that a person’s lack of self-confidence can also be seen in their handwriting? Here are some signs in handwriting analysis.
1.Low t-Bar Placement

Low t-bar placement
The height of the t-bar is closely related to the writer’s goals. The higher the t-bar placement, the higher the goals. The lower the t-bar, the more the person seeks to stay in their comfort zone.
2. Names Begin with a Non-Capital Letter (or “I” in English)
Capitalizing the first letter of a name indicates a sense of self-esteem. If someone writes the first letter of their name in capitals, they likely have self-confidence and a healthy assessment of their self-worth, believe in their abilities, and are independent.
Conversely, if someone writes the first letter of their name in lowercase (non-capital), they tend to lack self-confidence.
Don’t let your lack of self-confidence further erode your future development. Everyone is born with their own strengths and weaknesses. You too undoubtedly possess your own strengths, ones you may not even be aware of.
